From Airwaves to Dancefloors…
For years, Stephen Ferris brought soul, funk, and disco to Sydney’s airwaves through his FBI Radio show, Souled Out.
It wasn’t just a playlist—it was a movement. Listeners tuned in religiously, craving the deep cuts, the forgotten grooves, the remixes that never made it to mainstream clubs.
But something was missing.
People weren’t just listening—they were longing to dance.
Sydney’s nightlife had changed. For anyone over 30, the options were bleak. Clubs were overrun with selfie culture and soulless Top 40, and if you didn’t fit the hyper-young, hyper-curated crowd, you were out of place. In Europe, age didn’t define the dancefloor. But here? It was like there was an expiry date on having a good time.
And that’s when Stephen met up with Josh Beagley (his partner from FBI’s Funk Flashback) and Kris Gale (aka “The Godfather” from the Sydney DJ circuit)…

The Spark That Lit the Fire
Around the same time, an ABC News article featuring Jessie Ware made waves. She had reignited a passion for disco and soul, but her fans — many of them women over 30 — realised something brutal:
There were no dancefloors left for them. The industry had forgotten them.
Stephen Ferris, along with longtime collaborator Josh Beagley (his partner from FBI’s Funk Flashback) and Kris Gale aka “The Godfather” (friends on the Sydney music circuit), knew they weren’t imagining it—this was a real problem.
If the scene wouldn’t make space for them, they’d build their own.

Where Did the Good Times Go?
Along the way, nights out lost their magic.
✗ Clubs chased the young, leaving over 30s behind.
✗ The best DJs play at 2AM—who’s got time for that?
✗ Dancefloors became about selfies, not the music.
For too many, the dance scene stopped feeling like home. Inclusive, non-ageist spaces vanished, leaving a void for those who still crave rhythm, movement and connection.
Now? You’re stuck flipping through sitcom reruns, drowning in playlists, searching for that feeling.
It’s Here!
We took back the dancefloor.
✓ World-class DJs playing real music, no fillers.

What started as an idea became a movement.
Souled Out is more than a party…it’s a home for people who never stopped loving the music.
And we’re just getting started….
What’s Next?
Souled Out isn’t slowing down.
Bigger events. More live performances. More guest DJs. More unforgettable moments.
New partnerships, new surprises, same mission:
To break age barriers in the music scene and create a judgment-free dancefloor where real music lovers move, connect, and lose themselves in the moment.
